The provision of quality medical education is a primary goal of the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders. There is a significant unmet need among healthcare professionals for better education about ADHD. It is a complex disorder - a serious neurodevelopmental condition often accompanied by other learning, cognitive, and behavioral disorders. Untreated ADHD, especially in adolescence and adulthood, places a huge burden on patients and those close to them due to failed relationships, unemployment, substance abuse, personal injuries, and costing billions of dollars for governments, insurers, and taxpayers.
APSARD is dedicated to filling these voids in education about ADHD. The Society will provide the kind of scientific discussion and exchange needed to answer questions about appropriate ADHD diagnosis and treatment across the lifespan by:
- Providing a forum for presentation of free scientific communication on research and clinical practice
- Providing educational symposia
- Identifying and developing new educational initiatives
- Supporting education programs directed to people with ADHD
- Maintaining strict adherence to ACCME guidelines
- Developing educational activities and tools that are designed, and then evaluated, for their role in improving the learners’ competence, performance, and the overall quality and safety of the care they give to individuals with ADHD.
