Sandra Kooij started in 1995 with the development of diagnostic assessment, treatment and research in the field adult ADHD in the Netherlands. In 2006 she received her PhD on a thesis entitled ‘ADHD in adults. Clinical studies on Assessment and Treatment’. She has been involved in treating patients, training professionals, publishing articles, websites (www.adhdbijvolwassenen.nl, www.netwerkadhdbijvolwassenen.nl, www.kenniscentrumadhdbijvolwassenen.nl), 2 E-newsletters, and 4 books on adult ADHD. In 1998 she started the Dutch ‘Network for adult ADHD’, together with patient organisation Balans, which now comprises over 250 professionals in the Netherlands . In september 2003, she started the coordination of its European counterpart, the ‘European Network for adult ADHD’, in which now 17 countries take part. The purpose of the European Network is to increase awareness of adult ADHD, to formulate a Consensus Statement about diagnosis and treatment of adult ADHD and to facilitate research and patient services for adult ADHD in Europe . The progress of the European Network can be followed at www.adult-adhd.net. Since 2002 she is head of Program Adult ADHD at PsyQ, psycho-medical programs in The Hague , the Netherlands .
